Inclement weather affected all four of the 4A Conference 19 boys and girls soccer semifinal double-headers Wednesday.
At Tabb High, rain and lightning delayed the start of the opener between Tabb and Smithfield’s girls roughly 40 minutes before postponing the nightcap between Tabb and Grafton’s boys.
That same combination of rain and lightning wiped out both semifinals at Wanner Stadium between Jamestown-Powhatan boys and Jamestown-Grafton girls.
Bay Rivers District athletic directors are scheduled to meet Thursday morning to determine where and when games will be made up.
Tabb Girls Dominate Smithfield, 10-0
The Tabb Tigers were in control from the opening kickoff as they defeated the Smithfield Packers 10-0 on Wednesday night at Tabb High School.
The Tigers played an impressive game, rarely letting the ball come within their own 18-yard box.
Forward Erin Fenton was the first of many to score for Tabb. Fenton was able to trap the ball as it was rattling around in front of the Smithfield goal and put it into the back of the net from just outside the 6-yard box.
Brennan Rausch put Tabb ahead 2-0 as she ripped a shot from the right side of the field well beyond the 18.
Lakaiah Robinson scored a goal in each half of the match. Her first goal dropped in just over the head of the Smithfield goalkeeper from the center of the 18. Her second half goal came off an assist from midfielder Sam Erickson.
Leah Tyson scored on a penalty kick to put the Tigers ahead 4-0 and an own goal by the Smithfield keeper gave Tabb its fifth score in the half.
Fenton would score another goal just outside the 6-yard mark before halftime on a cross from Robinson to put the Tigers ahead 6-0 at halftime.
The Tigers continued to add to their lead in the second half.
Goals by Robinson, Katie Herold, Haley Thompson and Madelynn Grounds gave the Tigers their 10-0 victory.
“We played aggressively today and fixed some problems that we’ve been having this season,” Tabb Coach Kelle Shiflett said. “The girls are focused and they are ready to play.”
The Tigers are scheduled to play their next game Friday night in the 4A Conference 19 final.
