Boys Basketball: Bruton Passes First Conference Test; Walsingham Outlasts Tabb

Bruton’s boys basketball faced its first 2A Conference 33 opponent of the season Monday night and opened the game in typical fashion: on a run.

Immediately after the opening tip, Panthers’ senior Marcus Carter flushed a half-court alley-oop from junior Shaquan Edwards, which sparked a 23-5 run to start the game. Bruton went on to lead 40-7 at halftime and never looked back before winning 76-22.

This season, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 153-43 in the first quarter through seven games.

Carter finished the game with 15 points and Kapri Doucet added 11 as all 15 players on the Panthers’ roster scored. Defensively, Bruton held King William to single-digits all four quarters.

The Panthers, who improved to 7-0 on the season with the victory, will return to Bay Rivers District play on Wednesday when they play host to New Kent.

Walsingham 52  Tabb 37

Billy Barnes and Miguel Kissoon scored 13 points apiece and Kai Brown added 11 as Walsingham jumped on Tabb early for a 52-37 win on the Trojans’ home floor Monday night. The Tigers outscored the hosts 21-11 in the final quarter, but a 17-0 deficit after the first period proved insurmountable. Quentin Baird scored nine points to lead Tabb (6-3), which travels to play Jamestown on Wednesday. The Trojans, who improved to 7-4 with the win, visit Wakefield School on Saturday.
