Runners planning their 2013 race schedule can save by registering today (December 31) for the 3rd Annual Run for the Dream Half Marathon or 8K Run/Walk. The races will be held in Williamsburg on June 1 and 2.
The weekend includes a race for every ability, including those who want to walk for physical fitness and families with youngsters. In addition, the Run for the Dream 8K Run/Walk has been designated the 2013 USA Masters 8 km National Championships by USA Track and Field for the third year.
General registration for the half marathon is $70 through December 31, and will be $75 beginning January 1. The 8K Run/Walk registration fee is $40 through December 31, and will be $50 beginning January 1. Active duty members of the military may receive special registration pricing at any time. Active duty registration fees are $45 for the half marathon and $25 for the 8K Run/Walk.
Each runner will receive a commemorative T-shirt and tote bag, a first-class finisher medal, and free food and drink at the post-race party in William & Mary’s Sunken Garden. The first 3,000 registrants will also receive a free ticket and food voucher to Busch Gardens and a one-day pass to Colonial Williamsburg (total value $135), for use May 31-June 2, 2013.
Runners interested in participating in both the half marathon and Run/Walk may register for the Patriots Challenge and will receive a special commemorative medal. The registration fee is $100 through December 31, increasing to $115 on January 1. The active duty military price is $70. A special Kids Fun Run with a choice of three lengths (100-meter sprint, 400-meter dash or one-mile run) will be held on Saturday, June 2, at William & Mary’s Zable Stadium. The cost for children 14 and younger is $15.
The Run for the Dream Half Marathon and 8K Run/Walk start on Jamestown Road on the William & Mary campus, wind through Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area and finish at William & Mary’s Zable Stadium. The half marathon course also takes runners on the Colonial Parkway toward the James River before returning to the City of Williamsburg. Proceeds from the Run for the Dream benefit An Achievable Dream, a nationally recognized K-12 school in Newport News dedicated to the belief that all children can learn and succeed regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds.
The race also benefits the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, Disabled Sports USA and the Paralyzed Veterans Racing team, three programs dedicated to assisting and advocating for the severely wounded, ill and injured members and veterans of the armed forces and their families.
