ITHACA, N.Y. – The William and Mary women’s basketball team fell at Cornell, 60-56, on Sunday afternoon at Newman Arena.
Trailing by seven, 58-51, late in the second half, the College cut the deficit to two, 58-56, with 48 seconds remaining. With 19 seconds left in regulation W&M owned possession, and was poised to strike, but Cornell came up with adefensive stop en route to the win. The setback drops W&M to 2-8 on the season, while Cornell improves to 6-5.
Junior Kaitlyn Mathieu paced the College with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Senior Taylor Hilton pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with eight points. Sophomore Jazmen Boone finished the afternoon with 12 points and five steals, while senior Janine Aldridge chipped in with 11 points.
The Tribe returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 2, as it welcomes Winthrop to Kaplan Arena. Tip-off from Williamsburg is slated for 7 p.m., and fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live video and stats. Wednesday night’s game will be the College’s first in Williamsburg since it defeated Virginia Union, 78-44, on Nov. 14.
