Where We Live: A Landstown farm fit for horse lovers

VIRGINIA BEACH — Horses are majestic, powerful animals and they’re often pictured alongside the early inhabitants of this land, and the settlers and explorers who ventured west across the vast expanse of the nation.

For centuries, whether as transportation or as labor, horses have been an integral part of life in the United States.

But now that their role in labor and as transportation has waned, horses are mainly used in sport and for personal enjoyment. For most city dwelling horse-lovers there’s simply not enough room to house, to raise, nor to ride horses. However, while rare, it’s not impossible to find a small horse farm tucked away in a quiet part of the city.

For instance, take the property located at 3696 Landstown Road in Virginia Beach.

“This is a custom-built home on nearly six acres in a park-like setting that is completely private, yet within walking distance of Princess Anne Sports Complex, among other things in Landstown area,” said Anna Paduhovich, the listing agent and a realtor with Rose and Womble Realty.

On the property are three fenced pastures for horses and a barn containing six stalls, LED lighting, heated automatic water troughs, and split doors throughout. Additionally, there’s a second barn where two more stalls have been started. There’s also storage space for hay and for a tractor, as well as three frost-free hydrants and a workshop that is both heated and cooled.

Paduhovich said the property offers ample privacy and provides plenty of room for breeding horses, raising horses, and training and riding horses.

There’s a large deck on the back of the home looking out over the property, from where deer and other wildlife can often be seen.

Built in 1988, the 3,700 square foot house includes two master bedrooms and two guest rooms, as well as open areas where the family can relax or entertain.

The home is served by North Landing Elementary School, and Landstown Middle and High Schools.
