HISTORIC TRIANGLE — It’s that time of year where you can’t go into a store, turn on the radio, nor watch certain television channels without being bombarded by the love and cheer of the holiday season. Each week, we want to share with you some of our newsroom staff’s favorites of the holiday and invite you to share with us yours!
This week’s topic? Holiday traditions!
Nancy Sheppard, Managing Editor:
“Every year, we have a tradition of driving around and looking at Christmas lights. A particular favorite in our household is the Stern Family Holiday Light Show in Newport News. On Christmas morning, our kids partake in the ‘find the pickle ornament in the tree‘ tradition to decide who will unwrap the first present. Then, we go over to my parents’ house to exchange gifts and spend time with them.”
Ben Mackin, Senior Multimedia Journalist:
“My one steadfast Christmas tradition is to surround myself with as many people whom (who?) I love as humanly possible. Everything after that is a bonus.
…Hopefully that bonus includes Irish coffee.”
Molly Feser, Multimedia Journalist:
“There are so many things to do in this area around the holidays, but some of my favorite holiday traditions are going to Christmas Town with my family and all getting in the car and driving around to look at Christmas lights while we drink hot chocolate.”
Dominic Catacora, Multimedia Journalist:
“There are so many things to do in this area around the holidays, but some of my favorite holiday traditions are going to Christmas Town with my family and all getting in the car and driving around to look at Christmas lights while we drink hot chocolate.”
