NEWPORT NEWS — Willie Ora Powell Lucado, 92, of Newport News passed away on Friday December 17, 2021. She was a loving, caring, selfless wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the wife of the late Robert M. Lucado and was preceded in death by her brother, Vernard E Powell Jr.; sister, Doris Powell and beloved son, Robert Dale Lucado.
Born in Lynchburg, VA, Willie was the daughter of the late Vernard E Powell Sr. and Thelma Dawson Powell. Willie was a seamstress by trade and retired in 1983 from Gloria Manufacturing to be a fulltime caregiver to her son, Dale whom she devoted 38 years to.
She is survived by her brother, Ray Powell; sister, Francis Jones and her three daughters, Gail Lucado-Phelps, Donna Lucado Dudley (George) and Pamela Lucado Phaup. She was a warm and loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren Roberta (Rob), Ardith (Andy), Jeremy, Josh, Ryan, Courtney (Randy) and Erin(Ward) and great-grandmother of 8.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral Home with services to begin at 2:00p.m. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive family and friends at the home of Donna and George Dudley after the services as well.
