WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL) has many upcoming events for this week and next week. The following is a roundup of what is happening in the near future.
Bookmobile FunFest: Reptile Mania
Date: Nov. 20, 2021
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The Regional Library is promoting STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) every month. The monthly event features hands-on activities and crafts. There will also be free pizza and ice cream around 12 p.m.
This month’s STEAM event will feature reptile expert duo Scott and Kim Larsen. They will let visitors interact with lizards, frogs, turtles, and snakes.
The event will take place at the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, located at 8901 Pocahontas Trail. There will be shows at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Additionally, there will be more science activities and crafts for visitors.
Environmental Sustainability: Our Local Ecosystem Lecture/Nature’s Best Hope Discussion
Date: Nov. 17, 2021
Time: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The director of William & Mary’s Institute for Integrative Conservation will discuss its mission of cultivating an all-inclusive community of creative leaders to deliver innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing conservation challenges.
The event will take place in person at the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St., or online via Zoom.
Visitors who have read “Nature’s Best Hope” by Doug Tallamy are encouraged to stay after for a guided book discussion.

Those interested in learning more about climate change’s impact on the area are encouraged to check out Local Climatologist, Dr. Michael J. Allen’s talk on climate change’s impact on the area that will take place on Nov. 18, 2021.
The Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center Member Show
Date: Oct. 15 – Nov. 30, 2021
Time: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center (WCAC) is still exhibiting Member Art at the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St., until Nov. 30, 2021.
WCAC is a non-profit that is entirely driven by volunteers whose mission is to enrich the community through contemporary art.
Chess Open Play Sessions
Date: Nov. 21, 2021
Time: 2 – 4 p.m.
The Williamsburg Library will be hosting an open chess event for both experienced and players new to the game.
Chess players drop in to play and learn the game in the casual Weekly Chess Program.
The more experienced chess players can check out the Library’s Advanced Chess session that will be taking place on Nov. 17, 2021.
The Concert Ballet of Virginia Performs: The Nutcracker Suite
Date: Nov. 20, 2021
Time: 11 a.m & 1 p.m.
The Concert Ballet of Virginia, the state’s oldest continually operating ballet company, presents The Nutcracker Suite.
The event will feature performances by dancers from throughout Virginia and will take place at the Williamsburg Library’s Theatre room.
There will be two performances. The first performance will be at 11 a.m. and the second will be at 1 p.m.
There are no tickets because admission is entirely free.
