Janice Marie Ward, 89, of Newport News, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Newsoms, VA.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives in me will never die. Do you believe this?” – John 11:25-26 NIV
Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace with the Lord, she loved deeply.
“Jan” will be remembered for her love for family, optimism for life, sweet smile, strong hugs, beautiful handwriting, her talent of decorating the house, baking homemade heart-shaped biscuits, chicken potpies, pineapple orange cakes and black forest cakes, her love for dancing and music, caring for animals, a good yard sale as well as her favorite colors, mauve and denim.
Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy; her parents, Marvin and Mary Margaret Hudson; her first husband, Bill Davis and her son-in-law, Bobby Steele.
She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband of 48 years, Don Ward; her daughter, Pam (Jack) and her son, Larkin (Roslyn). She is a Second Mom to John (Lisa), Pat, and Ann (Bill); Grandma “Gamma” & “Memaw” to Justin (Kate), Rob (Marsha), Jessica, Justin, Ariel (Vincent), Summer (EJ), Billy, Will (Laura), and Lila (Rowland) and Great-Grandma to Katelynn, Hannah, Savannah, Olivia, Owen, Clayton, Lydia, and Liam. She is also survived by her brother, David (Shirley), special-in-laws, Steve (Drena) and Little Jack; many nieces and nephews, and her fur babies, Suzy and Bear.
Janice’s earthly journey is complete, but her love and memories will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
