Jean Rosemond Phaup (aged 85), lovingly known as “Moma” and “Gaga,” passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on July 27, 2026.
She was born on February 3, 1941, to the late Dorothy Estes Rosemond and Charles Fletcher Rosemond in Richmond, Virginia. Jean was the only girl surrounded by her five brothers, whom she adored. She grew up in Highland Park and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School, where she played Basketball and was voted “most bashful” in her class, which proved to be untrue later in life, as she never met a stranger. She made friends with anyone she encountered, which was a true testament to her character. She had many fond memories of growing up in her neighborhood, going to the park and playground with her brothers and friends, and her days in school.
Jean was a devout Catholic throughout her entire life. She attended church at St. Joseph’s in Richmond and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in New Kent, where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, before moving to Charles City. Jean was true the embodiment of beauty; she shined inside and out. She had the most loving and forgiving heart of anyone we’ve ever known. To her, no one was flawed; she saw the absolute best in everyone. She was our biggest cheerleader and never missed an opportunity to make her loved ones know how proud she was of them. She saw the glass as half full (hopefully of coffee, tea, or a piňa colada!) and always saw the bright side of everything in life.
Jean enjoyed every moment, big or small, and loved nothing more than spending time with her family and her sweet Pug, Daisy, watching UVA Basketball, playing scrabble and charades (we will never forget the turkey!), going to church, watching holiday classics like Elf and Home Alone, cooking some of her signature dishes like spaghetti, potato salad, and cowboy eggs, and relaxing on the beach and in her porch rocker. She had the best sense of humor, and was always up for any adventure; she never wanted to miss out. We will cherish the countless memories we hold dear to our hearts and the fun times we shared.
Jean is preceded in death by Charles Fletcher Rosemond, Dorothy Estes Rosemond Reardon, her five loving brothers, Charlie (Dee), Bookie (Betty), Dougie, David, and Bobby, nephews, David and Randy, and bonus family, Patrick Reardon “Dr. Pat”.
She is survived by her three children, Charles “Chuckie,” Cheryl (David), and Douglas “Dougie” (Andrea); seven grandchildren, David Eacho, Jr. (Ginny), Chris Eacho (Larissa), Thomas Eacho (Kate), Katie Dettelbach (Matt), Michael Phaup (Sarah), Amanda Condyles, and Alexandra Phaup; nine great-grandchildren, Amelia, Mallory, Lily, Sawyer, Molly, Luke, Caroline, Mason, and Tatum; very special nieces and nephews, Chip, Robbie, Carol, Dottie, Teresa, Joann, Bookie, Jr., John, Jimmy, Kenny, Susie, Brian, Cathy, Diane, Michael, Tracy, Lynn and Donna, and David; and sisters-in-law, Dottie, Bonnie, Marietta, and Shirley; great-nieces and nephews; special cousins, Jimmy Hawthorne and Shirley White; bonus family, Patrick Reardon (Josie) and children, and Maria Nguyen (Tuan) and children; and countless friends and family. She also cherished her dog, Daisy, grand dogs, Pearl and Melanie, and great-grand dogs, Pumpkin, Penelope, Buxton, Chili, and Abby.
May she rest in eternal peace.
The family welcomes you to join in the Rosary at 11:45 am on Monday, August 3, 2026, followed by the Funeral and Mass at 12:15 pm at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 828 Buford Rd., Richmond, VA 23235. All are welcome.
