Philip Lane Tyler was born on December 8, 1951, in Staunton, Virginia, and passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia. He will be remembered for his love of adventure, his generous spirit, and the many friendships he made throughout his life.

Phil dedicated 36 years of his career to Newport News Shipbuilding, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built with his colleagues over the years.

Phil had a lifelong passion for cars and motorcycles and could often be found working on them, talking about them, or simply enjoying them. He also loved the outdoors, from the mountains to the beach. He treasured the years he and his family spent living in Idaho, where he formed lifelong friendships, embraced the beauty of nature, and enjoyed the adventurous lifestyle it offered.

His daughter, Meghan Pierce Tyler, preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Casey Tyler; his siblings, Gary Tyler (Kathy), Terry Collins (John), and Lyndon Tyler; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

A memorial service celebrating Phil’s life will be held on Friday, July 17, at 3:00 p.m. at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, Virginia.

Phil will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his generous heart, his love of the open road, and the lasting memories he created with everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
