Sidney Deon Jones was born on July 20, 1974, in Hampton, Virginia, and peacefully departed this life on June 27, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 51.
Sidney devoted his life to serving and protecting his community through a distinguished career with the Hampton Sheriff’s Office. Over the years, his unwavering dedication, integrity, and exceptional leadership earned him the rank of Captain before his well-deserved retirement. He was deeply respected by his colleagues and known throughout the Sheriff’s Office as a compassionate leader, trusted mentor, and faithful public servant whose commitment to others never wavered.
Sidney was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Brian Jones and Beverly Vanessa (Moore) Gero; his cherished grandparents, Clarence and Clarine Jones; and maternal grandmother, Irene Blizzard-Moore, all of Hampton, Virginia.
While Sidney’s accomplishments were many, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 19 years, Melanie Jones; his beloved children, Sidney Jones Jr., Jordan Jones, Brayden Jones, Kayden Jones, and Crystal Williams; his loving sisters, China Colvin and Celine Gero; and his brother, Elijah Gero.
He also leaves behind his devoted uncle, Carl Hughes; his loving aunt, Angela Moore; and his cherished grandfather, Billy Moore, along with a host of extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Sidney will be remembered for his strength of character, quiet compassion, steadfast devotion to his family, and selfless commitment to serving others. Whether wearing his uniform, offering words of encouragement, or simply sharing his infectious smile, he made those around him feel valued and cared for.
