Carmelita “Carmie” M. Hayes, a beacon of warmth and strength, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 87. Born on January 3, 1939, in Bronx, New York, Carmelita lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family.

Carmie’s life was characterized by her passion for connecting with people, both in her personal life and through her work as a dedicated real estate agent. Her ability to find the perfect home for each family she worked with was a testament to her keen understanding of people’s dreams and desires. Her clients often became friends, charmed by her genuine warmth and straightforward nature.

Outside of work, Carmie embraced the joy of life through her enthusiastic participation in tennis and pickleball. These sports not only kept her active but also allowed her to form lasting friendships with those who shared her interests. Above all, Carmie cherished the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren. Her grandsons, Thomas Hallett, Conner Hallett, James Hallett, Oliver Hayes, and Eliot Hayes, were the light of her life, and she delighted in watching them grow and thrive.

Carmie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Mary and Anthony Maurice, and her dear sisters, Joan and Marie Maurice. She is survived by her devoted son, Anthony Hayes, her caring daughter, Mara Hallett, and her cherished grandsons, who will continue to carry forward her legacy of kindness and love.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF), an organization close to Carmelita’s heart.

Carmie M. Hayes leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a reminder to always embrace the simple joys in life. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
