Ronald Richard Palmer (Bucktrout Funeral Home)

Ronald R. Palmer, an accomplished professional and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 91. Born on May 20, 1935, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Ronald lived a life full of adventure, purpose, and love.

From humble beginnings delivering newspapers and prescriptions on his bicycle in Toronto, Ronald embodied a strong work ethic that carried him through a distinguished career. He moved his family from Toronto to the United States in 1964, where he made significant contributions as the Vice-President of Sales at the Consolidation Coal Company in Pittsburgh, PA. Ronald dedicated many years to this company, now known as Consol Energy, before enjoying a well-earned retirement.

Upon retiring, Ronald relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia, where he settled in the Ford’s Colony community. His retirement years were filled with cherished activities that reflected his zest for life. An avid golfer and fisherman, Ronald was rarely happier than when spending a day on the golf course or casting a line into quiet waters. A passionate sports enthusiast, he was a loyal Steelers fan and enjoyed watching shows like “Jeopardy,” “Animal Planet,” and “All Creatures Great and Small.”

Ronald’s love for the outdoors extended to Northern Ontario, where he spent many joyful summers at cottages and cabins. His athletic spirit shone in his youth and beyond, as he enjoyed skiing, ice skating, playing hockey, and serving as a university-level referee.

A devoted Anglican, Ronald was raised in the Anglican Church of Canada and attended various Episcopal churches during his time in the United States. He was also a valued member of the Ford’s Colony Country Club, where he fostered lifelong friendships.

Ronald cherished every moment spent with his family, especially during visits from his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren to Colonial Williamsburg, Water Country, and Busch Gardens. He found joy in bird watching and had a deep affection for animals, from dogs to the most aloof of cats.

Preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Charlotte Palmer; his beloved wife, Katherine L. Palmer; and his sisters, Doreen Stahl and Betty Richard. Ronald is survived by his loving daughters, Linda Palmer, Rhonda Zayas-Palmer and husband Vicente Zayas, and Sandra Palmer and husband Paul Scanniello. His grandchildren, Linda Zayas-Palmer, Mason Lyttle, Brendan Lyttle, and Vicente R. Zayas-Palmer, carry forward his passion for life. He is also remembered by his nieces, Brenda Castro-Chappell and Janis Jessop; nephew, John Jessop; and brother-in-law, Roland Parliament.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ronald’s life at a memorial service held at 11:00am, at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg, VA, or the Audubon Society, organizations that reflect Ronald’s love for animals and nature.
