James Buford Burke, 89, of Newport News, Virginia, was reunited with his departed family and beautiful great-granddaughter, Violet Grace, in heaven on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Jim was born in Trammel, Virginia on December 6, 1936 to Buford and Ethel Burke. He graduated from Ervington High School, Class of 1957, after which he worked for the coal mines, hauling coal from the mines to railroad cars. On September 15, 1962, he married Trula, his high school sweetheart.
Following a coal mining accident, they moved to Newport News, Virginia, where he worked for Oakland Dairy, delivering milk each morning in time for breakfast. After he left the dairy, he began working for Dow and BASF, working swing shifts and overtime until his retirement. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed a diverse range of hobbies including golfing, puzzling, entertaining his grandchildren and having lunch in the park with Trula.
Whether working or playing, Jim’s greatest joy was always the love he had for his family.
