Fred Ayres Keech, Jr., affectionately known as “Freddie,” passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on March 10, 1957, in Norfolk, Virginia, Freddie lived a vibrant and full life, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and an indomitable spirit at the age of 69.

Freddie dedicated his career to the construction sector, where he made his mark as a skilled and respected contractor. His work not only built structures but also forged connections within his community, leaving an enduring impact on all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, following in the footsteps of his father, Freddie’s heart truly belonged to the open waters and the thrill of the catch. A passionate fisherman that made it his profession as well as hobby, he was renowned for his expertise in marlin and bass fishing. Known throughout the fishing community as “The Legend,” Freddie’s presence will be sorely missed by those who shared his love for this timeless pursuit.

An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Freddie also cherished the peace of deer hunting and embraced the serenity found in nature. His love for the Dallas Cowboys was a source of amusement and camaraderie among friends and family, even as he endured their ups and downs with unwavering loyalty. Known for always preferring the scenic route, Freddie embodied the spirit of adventure and lived his life with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world’s beauty. Freddie’s interest also ventured into history where he was passionate about consuming information about the days of old, especially The Civil War.

Freddie was a loving and empathetic father and grandfather, cherished by his children Ashley (Mike), Josh, and Jake (Caroline). His grandson Barrett and his many fur grandbabies brought him endless joy. He was a caring, loving husband to Beth Keech, his wife of 27 years and his eternal best friend. Freddie is also survived by his brothers Tony (Vicki) and Robby (Nancy), his Aunt Jean, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Sr. and Josette; Grandma and Grandpa Ausley; Grandma and Grandpa Keech; and his Uncle Lewis.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel from 6pm to 9pm. Family and friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Freddie’s Life on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at The Virginia Beach Fishing Center, 200 Winston Salem Ave, Virginia Beach, at 5pm. As we gather to celebrate Freddie’s life, let us remember the warmth of his smile, the strength of his hugs, and the laughter that he shared so freely.
