Edna Adkins, 86 of Providence Forge, Va entered into eternal rest on Thursday June 4, 2026, at Chippenham hospital. She was born on September 2, 1939, to the late Vernon and Virginia Cotman.
Edna was a graduate of the Ruthville High School Class of 1958. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Little Elam Baptist Church. After marriage she transitioned over to Cedar Grove Baptist Church with also affiliation with the Richmond Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Steve Parsons.
Above all else, Edna’s greatest love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She began each day in prayer and devotion, faithfully interceding for her family, friends and community. Her unwavering faith served as the foundation of her life and a testimony to all who knew her. She also had a love for the outdoors; bird watching and attending to flowers. Inside the home, she was the best cook and baker, seamstress and heavy into all sorts of crafts.
During the Pole Tax era of the early 1960’s, Edna played a vital role in assisting residents of Charles City County by providing transportation to those who otherwise had no way to cast their vote.
In her younger years, Edna was an exceptional dancer whose joy and energy could light up any room. However, after receiving the Swine Flu vaccine in the 1970’s, Edna experienced progressive muscle weakness that eventually affected her mobility. Despite these challenges, she remained resilient, determined, and steadfast in her faith, never allowing her circumstances to diminish her spirit.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Adkins Sr; her son, Thomas M. Adkins Jr; grandsons, Rodney and Solomon Roane, and nephew Ernest Carlisle.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Roane of Chesterfield Va; her son, Steven Adkins Sr. of Providence Forge, Va; six grandchildren, Nicholas Jones, Steven Adkins Jr, Christopher Adkins, Brent Thomas, Alicia Adkins and Alivia Adkins; two sisters, Shirley Hickman of Augusta Ga and Gail Greene (Stewart) of Charles City Va; eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 12 Noon Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment and Repast to follow at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 5500 Adkins Rd, Providence Forge, VA 23140.
