Gilbert Hunter Maness, affectionately known as “Maness,” passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 30 in Hampton, VA. Born on February 28, 1996, in Jackson, TN, Maness lived a life full of adventure, loyalty, and love.

Maness proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 2017 to 2023. His dedication and bravery were evident in every aspect of his service, and he cherished the bonds he formed with his brothers and sisters in arms. One of his fondest memories was his time stationed in Japan, where his love for experiencing new cultures and spontaneous nature truly thrived.

Maness was not only a dedicated Marine but also a man who valued family above all else and his cherished friends. His wild, yet charismatic character earned him the nickname “pretty boy” among his family, who cherished his company and infectious spirit. Whether spending quality time with his beloved parents, Georgia and Charles Maness, or sharing laughter with his brother Logan Maness (Sara) and nephews, Bryson Connell, Bentley Maness, and his niece Brynlee Maness, Maness’s love for his family was unwavering.

Preceded in death by his granddaddy, Charles B. Maness, and his cousin, Austin Tart, Maness leaves behind a legacy of loyalty and trustworthiness that will continue to inspire those who knew him. He is survived by his loving parents, his brother, his nephews, his niece, and a host of friends and extended family who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

To those who had the privilege of knowing Maness, he was more than a Marine; he was a beacon of spontaneity and an embodiment of what it means to live life to the fullest. His adventurous spirit and unwavering loyalty will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.
