Garnette Lewis Doggett, 86, of Grafton, VA, died peacefully in her sleep on June 2, 2026 in her home. Her passing was just 4 months after the passing of her loving husband of 64 years, Billy Doggett.
Survived by her 2 children, Annette Wilhelm (Keith) of Gloucester, VA and William Doggett (Robin) of Williamsburg, VA. 6 grandchildren: Wiley (Becky), GraceAnne, Bailey (Brent), Chisholm (Kelsey), Griffin and Claibron, all who loved their “Grandma” dearly. 3 great grandchildren, Ollie, Sadie and Jethro.
Garnette graduated from Lancaster High School in 1958, and Mary Washington College in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in science. Garnette and Billy were married in 1962 and moved to Newport News. In 1965 they made their forever home in Grafton, VA.
Garnette spent her childhood days growing up on her parents farm in Lancaster, VA with her 2 sisters and 3 brothers. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Morteen and Royeston, She is survived by 2 sisters, Elizabeth and Elsie, and 1 brother, George. Garnette became a high school biology teacher in the fall of 1962 at Warwick High School. She moved to Denbigh High School when it opened and retired from teaching in 1991. Garnette enjoyed horticulture and worked tirelessly on her many flower gardens. She also enjoyed gardening and canning fruits and vegetables.
After retirement she was able to enjoy her grandchildren and eventually her great grandchildren.
Garnette was a member at World Outreach Worship Center and Congregation Zion Sake. She loved the Lord and loved to tell others how much the Lord loved them.
Garnette enjoyed traveling the United States and was able to travel to Europe and the Holy Land with her family to make the Bible come alive in her eyes.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 09, 2026 at 10:00 am at World Outreach Worship Center in Newport News. Service will follow at 11:00 and a reception will follow.
Internment will be at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lancaster, VA on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 3:00 pm.
