George C. Whitney III, 86, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on April 28, 2026.
Born in Geneva, NY to Dr. George & Phyllis (Esto) Whitney Jr., George spent 30+ years working in research and development at DuPont Photo Products where he was granted a patent for a novel photographic dye.
George was an avid sailor and was a past Commodore of the Monmouth Boat Club on the Navesink River in NJ.
In retirement, George moved south away from the cold and settled in the Williamsburg area which he loved. George’s love of history led him to become very involved with the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and a docent at the Jamestown Settlement Museum.
George is survived by his wife Margaret (Peg), his children David & Jonathan, his 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and Peg’s 5 children.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
