Dewey Lee Holt was born on April 29, 1951, in the rolling hills of Kentucky and departed this world on April 28, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, just one day shy of his 75th birthday. Throughout his life, Dewey embodied kindness, dedication, and an unfaltering spirit that inspired all who had the privilege to know him.
A true patriot, Dewey served his country with honor in the Army for nearly a decade. His commitment to excellence continued as a Parts Manager for Equipment Engineering, where he earned the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and clients.
Dewey harbored a great love for bowling, participating avidly in leagues until his health no longer permitted. His passion for the sport was matched only by his enthusiasm for football, except when it came to the Dallas Cowboys, against whom he was always delighted to root. Dewey was also a skilled tinkerer, often found under the hood of a car or gazing at the stars with wonderment. His gentle soul found peace in the tranquility of fishing.
A devoted family man, Dewey adored his children and relished every moment spent with them. His kind and generous nature touched everyone he met. He was a man of profound faith and an honorary member of Tallowwood Baptist in Houston, Texas—a testament to his lifelong dedication to service and community.
Dewey is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Louis and Beulah Holt, and his cherished brother, Lou. He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Sherry; his treasured children, Jennifer and David; grandchildren Jordan, Heaven, and Kristin; and great-grandchildren Wyatt, Rhea, and Kayleigh. He is also survived by his in-laws Michael and Alice, as well as a host of loving family members and dear friends.
In keeping with his extraordinary life, Dewey’s legacy will be honored at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner Road in Suffolk, with services at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests acts of kindness in Dewey’s memory, spreading the love and generosity for which he was known.
Dewey’s departure leaves a void in our hearts, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. His love, loyalty, and laughter remain indelibly etched in our memories, reminding us to live with both courage and compassion.
