William George Lent, 89, of Williamsburg

William George Lent, known as Bill to his friends, 89, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. Born July 24, 1936, in Yonkers, New York, he lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep commitment to his family and community.

Bill graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers and later earned an associate’s degree from Pace University.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edith M. Lent (O’Leary); his daughter, Kathleen M. Hill and her husband, Edwin J. Hill; his son, William J. Lent and his wife, Jennifer C. Lent; six cherished grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, John (Jackie) R. Lent and his wife, Barbara A. Lent. He was predeceased by his parents, Earle M. Lent and Catherine P. Lent, and his sister, Dr. Barbara Lent Lapetina.

Bill devoted over 40 years of his career to Consolidated Edison (Con Edison) in Westchester County, New York, where he worked as a lineman and later as a public affairs coordinator. He also served 20 years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. His commitment to service extended far beyond his professional life. He was a dedicated member of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, serving with Cataract Hose Company #2. In addition, he served the Village of Ossining as a Trustee. After relocating to Virginia, he continued his service as a police officer with the James City County Police Department and as a volunteer with the James City County Fire Department.

In his personal life, Bill found joy in a variety of passions. He was an amateur painter, a gun collector, and a model train enthusiast. He also enjoyed brewing his own beer, playing the guitar, and fishing. He spent many summers driving the tram at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he brought smiles to countless visitors. He loved visiting Ocean City, New Jersey, and walking the boardwalk with his family. He brought joy to many as Santa Claus for the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department and later carried on that tradition for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to his family, his community, and of course, his Maltese dogs.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
