Beloved Dorothy Hudgins Hopkins, 98, of Virginia Beach, Virginia was called home by her Heavenly Father on April 7th, 2026 and reunited with the love of her life, husband Levin Lee Hopkins, who predeceased her in 1960.
Dorothy was born on July 30th,1927 to Earnest and Jessie Hudgins in Mathews County, VA. She grew up on her parents’ farm, graduated from Mathews High School and soon after made her way to Norfolk, VA where she ultimately met her future husband, Levin Lee Hopkins. She was hired by NEHI Bottling Co. as a payroll clerk and years later she passed the Civil Service exam and began a long, successful career with the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, VA, advancing through multiple department promotions.
At 32 years old Dorothy found herself widowed with 3 small children to raise on her own. Through her strong faith and determination she found the strength to provide a secure, loving and happy home for her family and always sacrificed everything for her children. She defined and exemplified what true, pure love and devotion looked like. Dorothy was deeply loved, respected and adored by her children and her grandchildren. She will be profoundly missed.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Levin Lee Hopkins, her parents Earnest and Jessie Hudgins, her siblings, sisters Ethel Hudgins, Virginia (Bee) Severin, brothers Wendell Hudgins, Wilson Hudgins and Arnold (Jimmy) Hudgins and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is survived by her first child, son Mark Levin Hopkins, his daughters Kristin, Caymin and Morgan, Mark’s son Bryan and wife Jacklyn, Mark’s son Axel and wife Myranda, Dorothy’s second child, son Gary Steven Hopkins and wife Edilene Diehl, and Dorothy’s third child, daughter Marilyn Avram Douthat, and husband Billy Douthat and their daughter Taylor.
Dorothy is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
