Charles “Charlie” Sparks Barbour, 95, of Williamsburg

Charles “Charlie” Sparks Barbour (Vincent Funeral Home)

Charles “Charlie” Sparks Barbour was reunited with his wife, Barbara, in heaven on April 10, 2026.

He passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 95 (just 2 weeks before his 96th birthday).

Charlie was truly a southern gentleman, living his life with honesty, integrity and humility. He enjoyed a successful banking career beginning in his hometown of Danville, Virginia, and ending in West Point, Virginia, upon his retirement in 1987. His long and active life was punctuated by a zest for living, a generous spirit and a sense of humor that stayed with him until he took his last breath. He touched the hearts and minds of many along his life’s journey.

An Army veteran, he was active throughout his life in church and community activities. He travelled extensively and spent many an hour on the golf course. He also took delight in little things, like a tomato sandwich, made with home grown tomatoes. Above all else, he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Barbour, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Barbour, five siblings: Doris B. Shinn, Jack M. Barbour, Clara B. Meadows, Ruth B. Finch and Marion B. Frederick; and granddaughter, JoAnna Elizabeth Barbour.

He is survived by two children, James E. Barbour (Jacqueline) of West Point, and Martie B. Pauze (Rick) of Gloucester; two granddaughters, Nicole B. Pauze and Lisa M. Pauze, of Chico, California; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Arts Alive, PO Box 906, West Point, VA 23181, or Hospice House of Williamsburg or the West Point Historical Society, PO Box 1556, West Point, VA 23181.
