Ethel Thompson Evelyn, 88, of New Kent passed away April 9, 2026.
She was born February 2, 1938 to the late J.J. and Ruth Thompson. Ethel was a devoted mother and grandmother who dearly loved her family and spent her life committed to making a happy home. She was an avid reader and also loved flowers, animals and baking delicious breads.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Llewelyn Evelyn; her parents, J.J. and Ruth Thompson; sons, David and Walter “Happy” Evelyn; a daughter, Jonna Evelyn; and brother, Clyde Thompson.
She is survived by her son, Marcy J. Evelyn; daughter, Peggy E. Smith (B.T.); son, James Castle; sister-in-law, Shirley Perrin; grandchildren, Bernie Smith, Nikki Byrd (Eric) and David Evelyn; great-grandchildren, Matthew Tyson Smith and Braden Byrd; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
