Maria A. Cogley, a beacon of kindness and joy, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Newport News, VA, at the age of 82. Born on May 28, 1943, in the vibrant city of Manila, Philippines, Maria brought light and warmth wherever she went.
Maria’s life was a testament to love, compassion, and the simple joys that connect us all. She had an unwavering passion for bowling and cherished her feline companions. Her enthusiasm for playing bingo and the lottery was matched only by her delight in sharing meals with friends and family. Maria’s home was always open, her kitchen brimming with love, and she never missed an opportunity to help those in need.
A devoted member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Newport News, VA, Maria lived her faith through acts of kindness. Her melodic singing voice was a gift she shared freely, lifting the spirits of everyone around her.
Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Stanley J. Cogley, Jr., her son Kurt Sim Cogley, and her parents, Bienvenido and Constancia Sim. Her legacy lives on in her daughters, Maria C. Cogley (Glenn Curtin) and Stephanie Cogley (Robert Ray), her treasured grandchildren, Alex and Charlotte Curtin, her sister Nonie Sim, a host of nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends who were touched by her generosity and warmth.
