Emily Jo Cannon, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at the age of 83, in Currituck, North Carolina. Born on December 1, 1942, in Burlington, North Carolina, Emily dedicated her life to her family, community, and the arts.

Emily was a devoted public school art teacher who shared her passion for creativity and expression with countless students throughout her career. Her love for art extended beyond the classroom, as she was an accomplished artist in multiple mediums, earning numerous awards for her beautiful works.

She attended East Carolina University and graduated from Old Dominion University. Emily was also an active member of several organizations, including the Delta Zeta Sorority, Moyock Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, Currituck Arts Council, and The Order of the Eastern Star. Her vibrant spirit and commitment to service enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Emily filled her days with a variety of interests, including cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting, painting, and pottery. She cherished traveling and spending time with her family, always finding joy in spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her father, Haskell L. Rich; mother, Mary A. Rich; and brother, Bobby Rich.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, John M. Cannon; brother, Tommy Rich; loving daughters, Lisa, Carin, and Joy; five adoring grandchildren; and four precious great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Emily’s memory.

Emily Jo Cannon’s warmth, creativity, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love and art will continue to inspire generations to come.
