It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Mae Schihl, who departed this life on October 19, 2025, in Chesapeake, Virginia. Born in New York on April 25, 1938, she was taken from us at the age of 87.
A devout member of Ascension Catholic Church, Joanne’s faith was her guiding light, providing her with strength and comfort throughout her life.
Joanne dedicated her life to the service of others, working as a social worker within the very church she attended. Her selfless devotion and unwavering compassion touched the lives of many in her community.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Joseph Schihl and son, Joel Robert Schihl. As well as her cherished parents, Margaret (née Miller) and Daniel White; her sister, Jane Mawhir; and her brother, Thomas White.
Joanne leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory close: her son, Jonathan “Jonny” Schihl; her granddaughter, Zoe.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Church of the Ascension located at 4853 Princess Anne Rd #1, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love she so generously gave.
