Jennie Martin, born on August 11th, 1957 in Manhattan, NY was called home to be with God on August 28th, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA unexpectedly. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Jennie was the light in everyone’s life, from her infectious laugh to her dancing salsa and her love for everyone she met. Jennie never met a stranger; her home was open to all and a plate of food was always offered. She was the pilar of strength and the embodiment of kindness. Everyone who knew Jennie knew they had a friend for life. Her journey on earth will be remembered by her love, compassion and unwavering faith in God.
Those who knew Jennie knew she loved salsa music, Hallmark Christmas movies, game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, she loved Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and America’s Got Talent. After retirement she loved watching her soap operas again with her favorite being General Hospital. And she loved watching all these shows with her husband. It was their daily routine.
Jennie is survived by her husband of 49 years Miguel Antonio Martin, her daughter Annette Butts and her husband Michael Butts, her son Michael Martin, her grandchildren Jesmily Martin, Michael Martin Jr., Aaliyah Martin and Khloe Butts, her great-grandchildren Jadyn Martin, Jaylin Kelly, Mateo Martin and Aubrianna Martin, her siblings Minerva Rivera, Gilbert Rivera, Nancy Rivera and Victor Gutirerrez and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jennie was passionate about the St. Jude Organization. She has been a monthly donor for over a decade. We ask that you please consider donating to this amazing organization in fighting childhood cancer.
Although Jennie’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will live on in all of us. Just close your eyes and think about her laugh because there was no other laugh like it. She will forever be a bright light to all she touched.
The Celebration of Life services to honor Jennie will be held on September 4th, 2025 from 11am-3pm and September 5th, 2025 from 5pm-8pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
