Rebecca Jean Smith, 34, of Virginia Beach

Rebecca Jean Smith (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

Rebecca Jean Smith, 34, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025 in Virginia Beach while surrounded by her loving parents, James and Regina Smith. Born in Pennsylvania on March 27, 1991, Rebecca’s life was a testament to joy, resilience, and love.

Although living with a disability, Rebecca lived life fully and on her own terms. She attended Princess Anne Elementary, Princess Anne Middle, and Princess Anne High School. Her vibrant personality was evident in everything she did, whether she was wearing her favorite sunglasses, showing off freshly painted nails, or enjoying her beloved music.

Rebecca shared countless cherished moments with her parents at the Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, where they attended concerts together. Music was her heartbeat, with Creed, Kid Rock, and Aerosmith holding special places in her soul. She also had a deep love for water and swimming, where her happiness was as boundless as the waves.

Though nonverbal, Rebecca’s communication was extraordinary. She could say a million words with just her eyes. Her sense of humor, determination, and unmistakable spirit shone through daily. She never hesitated to remind everyone when dinner time rolled around at 5 o’clock, and she had a knack for getting what she wanted, whether it was her favorite baby doll named Squeak or the newspaper in your hands.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jacqueline Weber, Charles Smith, and Dolores Smith.

She is survived by her devoted parents, James and Regina Smith; her sister, Arley Kornegay, and husband, Darnel, of Colorado; niece and nephew, Malcolm and Mackenzie; Aunt Christine Mallory of Pennsylvania; Uncle Ken Roma and his wife, Carol; Aunt Jennifer Leighty and her husband, C.R.; as well as numerous cousins.

Special thanks are extended to all of the caretakers who played a role in Rebecca’s life, especially Ms. Carrie Prines, who loved Rebecca as if she were her own.

Rebecca’s life was one of love, laughter, and connection. Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory, her indomitable spirit, and the way she lit up every room with her presence.
