Aurora Grace Gilbert (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

Aurora Grace Gilbert, born August 5, 2011, in Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on July 24, 2025, in her hometown. She leaves behind a trail of colorful stories, scattered Lego bricks, her favorite stuffed companion, Doggie, and the fond memory of her fearless spirit.

A student at Berkeley Middle School, Aurora was known for her artistic flair, imaginative mind, and deeply empathetic soul. Whether she was creating masterpieces in various mediums, through her writing, or assembling her cherished floral Lego bouquets, she had an eye for beauty and a talent for seeing the world in vibrant hues.

Her passions extended far beyond the art world; horseback riding was another of her adventurous outlets, though the horses might say they were just along for the ride. Aurora had a deep love for all things animals, often found tending to beings great, small, furry, feathered, and scaly. Her fascination with dragons was legendary, and now her spirit is flying high like one of these fantastic creatures.

Aurora was also the devoted bird mother to Willow; their bond was as strong as any dragon’s fire.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather Norman “Poppi” Morgenstern, grandfather James “Pappy” Gilbert, great-grandmother Freida Morgenstern, and great-grandfather Israel Morgenstern.

Aurora is survived by her loving parents, Davina and Nicholas Gilbert, her brothers Aiden and Griphyn, grandmother Josiane “Mémé” Morgenstern, grandmother Phyllis “Grammy” Gilbert, and a myriad of family and friends who adored her vibrant presence.

To honor the indomitable spirit of Aurora Grace Gilbert, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 30th at 11 a.m. at Bucktrout Funeral Home. In true Aurora fashion, we encourage guests to wear bright colors and bring stories to share.

While Aurora may have left us too soon, her creativity and passion will continue to light our hearts and imaginations.

Please consider supporting the family in their time of need.
