Duerant Lueversal (Armstead) Wallace (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, heaven gained a beautiful soul. Duerant Lueversel Armstead Wallace peacefully entered eternal rest, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on April 9, 1949, to the late George E. Armstead and Dorothy Hatchett Armstead, her life was filled with love, joy, and unwavering faith.

On September 12, 1966, Duerant married the love of her life, Levi Wallace Jr. For fifty-nine years, they shared a bond built on laughter, loyalty, and deep affection. Together, they raised two children, Diane Wallace and Levi Wallace III, pouring their hearts into creating a loving and joyful home.

Duerant proudly served at The College of William & Mary for twenty years before retiring. She began her walk with Christ early in life at Mount Zion Baptist Church, later becoming a cherished member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she and Levi worshipped faithfully together.

To know Duerant was to feel joy. She was the spark in every room—full of life, laughter, and light. Her radiant smile and unforgettable laugh were the heartbeat of every family gathering. She adored her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “MeMe,” and loved them with all her heart. Whether dancing, traveling, shopping, or planning a good yard sale, Duerant brought a special magic to everything she did. She had a flair for fashion—always coordinated from head to toe, often wrapped in vibrant African prints that matched her bold and beautiful spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Charles Hatchett and Theodore Hatchett; and sisters, Hazel Hatchett-Graham, Barbara Wallace, and Geraldine Armstead. We find comfort in knowing they are now reunited in heaven, rejoicing together.

Her love lives on in the hearts of her devoted husband Levi Wallace Jr.; children, Diane Wallace and Levi Wallace III (Ashley); beloved grandchildren, Schekel Wallace, Dajanera Wallace, and Isaiah Wallace; sister Dorothy Jefferson; brothers, George Armstead, Leonard Armstead, and Preston Armstead (Teresa); sisters-in-law, Charlene Wallace and Elma Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all touched by her warmth and grace.

Duerant was truly a gift from God—a shining light, a devoted wife and mother, a joyful grandmother, and a loyal friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will live on in all of us.
