William “Camb” Ashley, 79, of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away on June 6, 2025 at his home.
Camb was born and raised in King and Queen County, Virginia. He was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and the University of Richmond. He began his work career as a teacher at York Academy where he enjoyed coaching basketball and teaching Latin.
A loving and thoughtful husband, Camb often surprised Willie with yellow roses during one of the hundreds of monthly anniversaries over the years. After the birth of his oldest daughter, he changed careers and eventually became a realtor.
Camb was an avid basketball fan and never missed a chance to cheer on the Richmond Spiders. His happiest moments were with family on the beaches of North Carolina. Camb was the best dad to his three daughters, who he kept entertained with his creative stories and poems throughout their lives. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor, making jokes until his last days. His happiest role, though, was that of Pops to his five grandsons.
Camb is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Steve Ashley, as well as two brothers Steve Amos “Sonny” Ashley and George “Tommy” Ashley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Wilma, his three daughters Sarah Rogone (Pete), Melissa Larimer (Derek), and Stephanie Ashley (Paul); five grandsons – Tristan, Cameron, Samuel, Jackson, and William; two brothers, one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Camb’s memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
