Kay Knight Evans, 84, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 11, 2025.
Kay was born in Newport News, Virginia, the daughter of Ruby and Clifton Knight. Kay grew up in Newport News and was a graduate of the Newport News High School class of 1959. Kay was a cheerleader for NNH and began friendships there that continued throughout her life. Kay married Ned Midkiff in 1960 and together they raised 3 children, her pride and joy. She was their cheerleader for life!
Kay began her career in the Judicial System as a clerk in the Newport News Criminal Court. She drove a school bus while raising her family and was a favorite among the kids! Kay returned to work in the court system advancing to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office working for Howard Gywnn until her retirement in 2004. Her caring fun nature and strong work ethic was what made Kay special, she was that bright moment for all that met her.
Kay married Captain Paul Lawson Evans Sr. in 2006, the love of her life! They created a lifetime of memories in the short years they were able to be together.
Her last adventure in life was living with her eldest daughter on the 4×4 in Corolla, NC. Her final years were filled with beautiful sunrises and sunsets, ocean breezes, and the love of her daily dachshund companions, Betty and Maverick.
Kay’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved dearly! Kay had a powerful Christian faith that grew throughout her life. It is what sustained her and exemplified to her children, family, and friends what living in faith really was. This was her greatest gift of all and what will sustain us as we mourn her passing to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Ruby Knight; her brother, Wayne Knight and her husband, Paul Evans Sr.. She is survived by her children, Cindy Midkiff, Buddy Midkiff (Annie), and Kristen Beal (Jeff); sister, Janice Belton (Vernon); nephew, Shawn Hughes (Carol); nieces, Shannon Seals and Christian Spoo (Joshua); grandchildren, Macon Kennedy (Anna), Grant Kennedy and Christian and Angelina Midkiff and Paul’s family whom she adored: his children, Dr. Paul Evans Jr., Mark Evans (Lisa), Lisa Field (Greg) and his grandchildren, Lawson (Kamryn), Mark, Clay, Luke, Christian, Brooke, and Bridget Evans; Leanne Edwards (John) and Emily Brookfield (Parker).
In lieu of flowers, it is Kay’s request that you send a donation in her name to the animal rescue, SPCA of your choice or the Corolla Wild Horse Fund.
A Celebration of Kay’s Life will be held at 12:00 pm. on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home with Pastor Edward Ponton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the funeral home chapel.
