John Edward Tabb Sr., 81, of Providence Forge

John Edward Tabb Sr. “Buster” was born September 12, 1943, was called home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2025, at his daughter Bernice home in Charles City, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents Zack E. Tabb Jr. and Edna Jones Tabb, his wife Iris Johnson Tabb, son Joseph Tabb (Kathleen), son John Edward Tabb Jr. (Magdeline), brother Zack E. Tabb III, brother Thomas B. Tabb, grandson Bradford Thompson Sr.

He joined Little Elam Baptist Church in 1955. He attended Woodburn Elementary and graduated from Ruthville High School in 1961. He began his work career at Newport News Shipbuilding as a pipefitter. He went on to become a brakeman and engineer for C&O railroad where he retired after many years of service. You would see him coming through Providence Forge and blowing the whistle.

He was a man of many talents and had a gift of lengthy conversations. John was an avid reader and enjoyed researching into his and other families genealogy. He worked closely with and was known well within the History Center in Charles City County. He was a very good cook and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was well known in his community and will be greatly missed.

He leaves to cherish his memories, daughters Darlene Arredondo (Alex), Bernice Cotman (Carlton Sr.) son Todd Tabb(Wanda), 12 grandchildren (Joseph Tabb, Kendall Griffie, Angela Tabb, Todd Jones, Rachel Lee, Edna Hernandez, Mariah Garcia, Antoine Tabb, Thomas Tabb, Carlton Cotman Jr., (Crystal), Welton Cotman, John E. Tabb III, 26 great grandchildren, sister Angela Greene (Floyd), brother Kenneth Tabb (Pat), aunts Virginia Webber and Ann Tabb, sisters-in-law Laverne Green(Clarence) and Nina Fleming (Bruce), brothers-in-law Lee Jones, Carneal Jones, Rodney Jones (Yvonne) and Noel Jones. A host nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A lifelong friend and classmate William Christian.
