James “Jimmy” Edward Courtney Jr., 86, of Richmond VA, passed away on May 20, 2025 in his home at Westminister Canterbury.
Jimmy was born and raised in King and Queen County Virginia. He was the son of James Edward Courtney and Martha Beane Courtney. Jimmy was baptized and raised in Immanuel Episcopal Church at King and Queen Courthouse, Virginia.
His father, James Edward Courtney Sr. was a roadbuilder, and Jimmy grew up helping his father, hunting, fishing, racing cars and enjoying time at the family property at Newington.
He married Barbara Jean Lambert and had a son, James Courtney III. Jimmy served in the U.S. Army and then went to work with Concrete Pipe and Products Company in Richmond VA, where he and Barbara settled. He continued his love for automobiles and racing, hunting, fishing and spending most of his free time with family at Newington. Jimmy played an active role in the Eastern Henrico Ruritan Club and moved to Westminister Canterbury upon the death of his wife, Barbara in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Jimmy is survived in death by his son and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM June 7, 2025, at Immanuel Episcopal Church, King and Queen Courthouse VA with burial following in the church cemetery. There will be a reception following the service at Newington.
