Sarah (Nannie) Dunning Dodson, seventy-nine, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, surrounded by the family who loved her so much.
Born on March 24,1946 in Norfolk VA, Sarah dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband of 60 years, Edgar, and their three children, Cathy Edwards (deceased), Karen Gibson, and Kevin Dodson.
Sarah’s greatest joy came from cooking and baking a lot of cookies to share with family, friends, and neighbors during the holidays and throughout the year. Sarah enjoyed reading, putting puzzles together, and spending time with her closest friends from the Susanna Wesley Circle she belonged to. Most of all she loved spending time with her five grandchildren. She was so proud of each one of them.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Florence Dunning, her in laws Archie and Alice Dodson, and her beloved daughter Cathy Edwards. Sarah will lovingly be remembered by her husband Edgar Dodson, her daughter Karen Gibson (Larson Gibson), her son Kevin Dodson (Michele Tucker), brother Charles Dunning (Julie Dunning), sister-in-law Sandra Dodson. She will also be deeply missed by her five grandchildren, Ashley Thurston, Sadie Dodson, Emerson Dodson, Libby Dodson, and Wilson Gibson.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm Thursday April 17, 2025, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church in the Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages an act of kindness in Sarah’s memory to a charity of your choice.
