Lisa Ellen Mele (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

Lisa Ellen Mele, fondly known to many as “Meemaw,” departed this world on March 21, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on November 24, 1960, she left behind a legacy of love, warmth, and faith that touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Lisa dedicated over 37 years of her life to the United States Postal Service, retiring with honor as a postmaster. Her commitment to her work was rivaled only by her devotion to family and friends. Beyond her professional life, Lisa found joy in simple pleasures: tending to her garden, feeding the birds, and spending serene moments by the beach. She cherished time spent poolside, hosting gatherings filled with laughter and love. An avid traveler, Lisa embraced the world with open arms, always eager for new experiences.

Her heart was especially tender toward her beloved puppy “Zero”, who accompanied her on many of life’s adventures. Lisa’s deep Christian faith guided her throughout her life, and she was a beacon of kindness and compassion to all who crossed her path.

She is survived by her beloved partner of 25 years, Robert J. Mele, who shared in the joys and challenges of life with unwavering support and love. Her legacy continues through her daughter, Stephanie Nichols (Bobby) of Stafford, VA, and son, Jay Tayman (Courtney) of Stafford, VA. She is also lovingly remembered by her mother, Avis Kirk Smith (William); siblings Terry Kirk-Manetzke (Dan) of Moyock, NC, and Doug Kirk (Joy) of Winchester, VA; and stepmother, Sally Kirk of Ocala, FL.

Lisa’s family extends to her cherished stepchildren, Linda Cusma (Jared) of Moreau, NY, and Rob Mele, Jr. (Amanda) of Spotsylvania, VA. She was a proud grandmother to Alana Nichols, Alexa Nichols, Jocelyn Tayman, Joseph “JJ” Tayman IV, Harper Tayman, Matt, Tyler, and Zach Mele, as well as Riley and Marissa Cusma. Each grandchild was a testament to her enduring love and nurturing spirit.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the remarkable woman Lisa was. Her presence in this world will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
