John William Royall, 81, of Jetersville

John William Royall (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

God in His infinite wisdom dispatched His angels to claim the soul of our loved one, John William Royall in the early hours of January 23, 2025. John was the third child born to the late Dea. Thomas and Ruth Pitchford Royall on April 3, 1943, in Jetersville, VA.

John attended school in Amelia County and graduated from Russell Grove High School in 1962. He was employed at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, retiring after twenty-five years of service as a dietary chef. He later became a caregiver, caring for the elderly and the sick and shut-in. He would provide transportation to doctor appointments and provided various other needs to whoever needed them. On other days you could find him working at Amelia Springs. Up to the time of his passing, he was still helping others. John was well-known in the area and was always helping family and friends.

John loved to cook. When visiting him you could count on a delightful meal and a delicious care package of canned vegetables and his famous chili and chow chow.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was predeceased by his grandson Lasell C. Gilliam; brothers, Rev Ralph C. Royal and Thomas Royall; and sisters, Daisy Nadene and Viola Reed.

To forever cherish his memory are his daughter Felicia C. Royall-Gilliam (Charles); grandson Denzel J. Gilliam; great-grandson Reign L. Gilliam; sisters, Marcia V. Anderson of Burkeville, Va., Gladys E. Robinson and Rev Dr. Myrtle L. Dobson (Tracy), both of Newport News, VA; brother Dea. Nelson Royall (Irma) of Jetersville, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
