Master Chief James Steven Krause, born February 20, 1977, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2024, at his home in Norfolk, Virginia.
Large in stature and bigger in heart, Jaime lived his life out loud and to the fullest. Never meeting a stranger, he always covered everyone around him in his laughter.
Jaime was a dedicated and highly respected U.S. Navy Master Chief. Known for his leadership and mentoring skills, his commitment to his profession and fellow servicemen and women was unwavering.
Serving 26 years active duty, Jaime sailed the seven seas and served at over a dozen duty stations including the 9/11 crew on the USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55), the Coastal Riverine Squadron, USS Pinckney (DDG 91), USS Lake Erie (CG 70), USS John C Stennis (CVN 74), and USS Eisenhower (CVN 69). He advanced along the way, growing in knowledge and rank to his current role as Master Chief Electronics Technician. Throughout his service, Jaime was honored with multiple awards and decorations including the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7), National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and many more.
Outside of his military career, Jaime’s greatest joy in life came from his family. Especially travels and adventures with his beloved daughter, Phoebe, and son by heart, Luigi. Most recently, they enjoyed a Boogie Wit Da Hoodie concert in Amsterdam and a visit to Madrid.
In addition to Phoebe and Luigi, Jaime is survived by the mother of his cherished children, Marilisa Veltre; his proud father, Steven Krause; his step-mother, Stacy; his parents by heart, Pietro Veltre and Immacolata Morelli; his brother by heart, Francesco (Miriam Criscuolo) Veltre; his Zia, Carolina Palmesano; his mother, Rosemary Krause; his sisters, Sharon (Jay) English, Karolynn (Brian) Cionek; his step-sister, Mindy Preston; his nephews, Matthew Smolich, Jackson Cionek, Cole Cionek; his niece, Alysa Stokes; his great-niece, Kamiyah Stokes; his great-nephew, Anthony James Stokes; his extensive Naval family and company of friends, including The Four Horsemen.
Having lived a life of service to his family, our nation, and the Navy, Jaime will be deeply missed but forever remembered as a loving father, dedicated serviceman, and a source of joy to many. Fair winds and following seas, Master Chief Krause.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
