Katherine Ann Hanks, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away from this life on October 23, 2024 in Chesapeake, Va. She fought a four year battle with ovarian cancer and is now in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who had promised her, “today you will be with me in paradise.”
She was born on November 19, 1958, in San Antonio, Texas and is the daughter of Rudolfo (Rudy) Dominguez and Roberta (Ruby) Gonzalez. Kathy’s first family served in the military, (navy), and moved from place to place, eventually settling down in Va. Beach, Va.
Kathy graduated from Kellam High school and it was there, when she met her future husband, Kenny Hanks. They went to their senior prom together, dated for many years, and finally got married on May 7, 1983.
Kathy started her professional career as a bank teller with Va. National Bank in the early 1980’s, (she was very detailed oriented in keeping finances and important documents in order). Shortly thereafter, she started waitressing tables at the infamous “Blue Pete’s Restaurant”. She made more money there than being at the bank and she impressed the owner, Pat Ricks, so much that he gave her the keys to the restaurant and made her manager.
At the young age of 30, on April 8, 1989, Kathy was blessed with her first child, a baby girl, Kacey Mae Hanks. Two years later, on October 31, 1991, she was blessed with her second child, a baby boy, Jake Virgil Hanks. After the birth of her two children, Kathy devoted her life into make a house a loving home for her family.
When her children began school, Kathy volunteered to work in the schools. She was in the schools so much that eventually they hired her as a nine month employee working as an attendance secretary. Kathy retired as the attendance secretary for Hickory High School in 2024 after 16 years of service.
On May 18, 2012, Kathy was blessed when another baby girl came into her life, PresliRose Hanks. It was God’s precious gift to Kathy and she spent the rest of her life on earth cherishing that gift. She will always be watching over her and will always be PresliRose’s biggest fan.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, her three adoring children, her caring sister, Debbie Dey, and her two handsome brothers, Ray Dominguez and Johnny Briggs.
Her memory will be fondly cherished by all who knew her, as her gentle spirit and nurturing heart has left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. Though she may be gone, the love she shared continues to live on in the hearts of those she loved and cared for so dearly.
