Hilda Beckh Sherman died on October 16, 2024 in James City County. She was born in Richmond, VA on September 5, 1930 to F. Karl and Ruth Will Beckh.
Hilda was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and the College of William and Mary, class of 1952, where she met H. Wray Sherman, Jr. They were married in 1954 after Wray graduated from the Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry. They had two sons, H. Wray III and F. Will Sherman. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church of Newport News where she was active in the Women of the Church, a Sunday School teacher, a Director of Vacation Bible School and a Ruling Elder. Second Church united with the Denbigh Presbyterian Church in 2014 and she became a dedicated member of the Denbigh United Presbyterian Church. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband of 56 years, her son, Will, and her sister Jacqueline Beckh Price.
Survivors are her son, Wray and his wife, Martha Maxwell Sherman, and daughter-in-law, Harriet Anne Sherman, eight grandchildren: Elizabeth Harding, Wray IV (Ashley), Hunter (Dana), Rebekah Ney (Philip), Will Jr. (Ashley), John David (Victoria), Kati Mackichan (Liam) and Jackson Sherman. Sixteen great grandchildren: Madison and Jase Harding, Kellen and Bryce Sherman, Liam, Jamie and Hailey Sherman, Silas, Royer and Georgia Ney, Hunter and Aiden Sherman, Raya and Sadie Mackichan, Ridge and Leddy Shomo. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Beckh Robertson, many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Denbigh United Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 2, at 2 p.m.
