Garland Cole Burton III, affectionately known as GC or Popa, passed away on August 2, 2024.

Born to Garland Cole Burton Jr and Retta Jean Burton on January 19, 1958. GC graduated from Lafayette High School in 1976 where he played football.

On January 18, 1977, GC married the love of his life, Janette “Jan” Amory, in Williamsburg, Virginia. GC was an electrician at William & Mary and would donate his skills and time to help those in need through organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Yugo Ministries. He was an active member of his community; he enjoyed working on cars and loved spending time with his family.

Preceded in death by his wife, Jan Burton and his father, Garland Burton. He is survived by his mother, Retta Jean Burton; his children, Ginny (James), Nicole (Bryan), Garland (Tabitha) and Maggie (Kevin); his grandchildren, Christopher (Hope), Katie (Steven), Casey (Chris), Austin, Nathan, Noah, Andre, Caroline, Rylee, Cheyenne, Laymon, Parker, Harrison, Ashlynn, Autumn, Tyler, Annistyn; his great-grandchildren, Faith, Kaylynn, Winter, Atlas, Credence, Jace, Mason and Emma; his siblings, Garla, Gary (Joyce), Melanie and their families.

Garland Cole Burton III will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His spirit of generosity and love will continue to inspire those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

The service to honor and celebrate GC’s life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at noon at LifePointe Christian Church in Toano, Virginia.
