Thomas McGowan, USN Ret. was born the last of 13 children to Thompson and Jennie McGowan on July 22nd 1929.
After retiring from the US Navy, he entered Civil Service and served as a Fuels Officer at Oceana Naval Air Station. Tom was a 42nd degree Mason, a recreational pilot, and a world traveler. A lover of history and poetry, he always had a story or a song worth sharing and lived life large.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas and David; two daughters, Gail and Susan; three grandchildren, Kelly, Reilly and Baillie; and a great granddaughter, June. Father. Philosopher. Friend. He will be missed.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 between 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel located at 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach Virginia, 23462.
A funeral service is scheduled to follow at 1:00 pm with a private family burial to take place following the conclusion of the service.
