Rachael Shannon Kramm affectionately known as Mimosa, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on June 27, 2024, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 42.
Born on April 26, 1982, in Norfolk, VA, she was a cherished member of the community known for her dedication to mental health advocacy. She was a self-described “unique bird” with a heart of gold. Everyone who met her couldn’t help loving her.
Mimosa graduated from Deep Creek High in 2000 and was recently completing her M.S. in Mental Health Counseling at Divine Mercy University. She dedicated her career to serving others, working with the City of Virginia Beach Public Schools from 2003-2005 and then with Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation from 2005 until 2020, and later as a Mental Health Counseling Intern from 2022 until her passing. Her commitment to her profession and her passion for helping those in need were evident to all who knew her.
Her life was rich with interests including music and animals. Her love for music inspired her to join the radio communications program through Chesapeake Public Schools where she volunteered for WFOS, eventually becoming an on-air personality. She later continued broadcasting with WODC and online at STFU.FM; but her most profound commitment was to mental health advocacy, which reflected her deep empathy and understanding of human struggles.
Rachael is survived by her loving husband, Mike; her father, Michael; step-mother, Kim; brothers, Ben and Collin; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her mother, Cheryl, her grandmother, Soko; grandfathers, Lou and Lee; and several beloved aunts and uncles.
Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach, VA, will be assisting the family with the services coming up on Friday, July 12, 2024. The community is invited to gather and remember the profound impact Mimosa had on all those around her for a visitation at 5PM and service to follow at 6PM. She will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Her commitment to enhancing the lives of others and her vibrant yet meek spirit will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
