Donald Ray Morris, 90, of Richmond

Donald Ray Morris (Vincent Funeral Home)

Donald Ray Morris, 90, passed away peacefully at home where he wanted to be on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

He was the son of the late Charles Percy Morris and Josephine “Joan” Simmons. Donald was born December 19, 1933, in Richmond, Henrico County, Virginia where he remained all of his life. He was raised by maternal grandparents, Joe and Vivian Setzer Simmons in the city of Richmond.

He took great pride in all he did and accomplished. Don’s occupation was a frame, body, and fender man, whose abilities to repair wrecked vehicles was quite impressive. Donald loved fishing and restored an old flat bottom skiff called the “Wet Foot” fishing the Chesapeake Bay from New Point to the Eastern Shore for many years. He also enjoyed fishing in his smaller boats in the York River. Living his life at The Trent House, putting on pig roasts, stews, working the farm, and his 4 acre gardens with the old Ford 8N which he overhauled many times, Donald enjoyed providing the bounty of his crops for family and friends. He loved his Labrador Retrievers and always had dogs up until the latter years when he no longer could care for them. He enjoyed visits from his grand dogs whenever they visited. They knew Papa had graham crackers and would sit patiently by his chair in anticipation of a cookie! He played his harmonicas for the family on special occasions. He missed Barbara, whom he referred to as “so beautiful, she should have been a movie star” very much and was broken hearted after she passed.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara May Wade, of 67 years. He is survived by two children, a son, Dan Morris and his wife Mary; and a daughter, Donna Michelle (Morris) and her husband Billy Robinson; three granddaughters, Kaley (Chris) Leonard, Logan Michelle (Brady) Adkins, and Ashlyn Ray Madison; two great-grandsons, Liam Leonard and Dawson Adkins.

His journey with us, has come to an end, but we know he’s no longer suffering. We will miss you.
