Woodrow Wilson Slate Jr., 76, relocated to heaven on June 14, 2024, to live eternally with Jesus. Woody was born and raised in Newport News with his two sisters and was a proud graduate of Newport News High School in 1966.

Woody is survived by his second wife, Nancy R. Slate, daughter, Leslie S. Reno, son, Woodrow Wilson Slate III (Sandra), stepson Adam Bostic (Jessica Neal), and stepdaughter Laura Bostic (Ken Hoes). Known as GP, he is survived by his grandchildren–Lane, Kyle, Seth, Christy, Kendall, Zack, and Aidan. Also surviving Woody are his sister, Jeannie Hall, and his brother-in-law, Dennis Davis.

Woody was predeceased by his first wife, Christy Lynn Slate, his sister Patsi Davis, and his parents, Woodrow Wilson Slate Sr. and Charlotte G. Slate.

Woody was a fun-loving, adventurous “surfer”, world class fisherman, fast food connoisseur, and the life of the party. He also had his serious side, obtaining his undergraduate and graduate degrees as an adult. He worked 43 years in Property Management with the Air Combat Command (ACC), Langley Air Force Base, and was an adjunct professor at Hampton University teaching Government Contracting.

Woody was on the Cradle Roll at First Baptist Church Newport News and a lifetime member, serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Director and Teacher, and other various committees. In 2019, after many years of service as a deacon, Woody earned the distinction of Life Deacon.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at First Baptist Church Newport News (12716 Warwick Blvd). Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 AM followed by the memorial service at 12:00 PM.
