Susie Katherine (Johnson) Wallace, 84, of Williamsburg

Susie Katherine (Johnson) Wallace (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the angel of the Lord came to guide His child Susie Katherine Johnson Wallace home to be with Him eternally. With outstretched hands towards her, she did not hesitate to leave her earthly body to become one with her Heavenly Father.

Susie was born to the late Early Johnson Sr. & Patsy Johnson Harris on October 12, 1939, in Amelia County. She was one of eight siblings.

Susie graduated from the Amelia County Public School System. She continued her education at a beauty school in Richmond, Virginia.

She retired from The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as a Supervisor after thirty dedicated years. She later worked at K-Mart for another ten plus years.

On June 22, 1961, Susie was united in marriage to Raymond Frank Wallace. This union was blessed with five children, Howard, Sharon, Kenneth, Juanita, and John. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband of sixty-two years; and a devoted and loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She always put the needs of her family as well as others well above her own needs.

Susie, also known affectionately as “Mama Sue,” was kind and loving to everyone she met. The love she had for her Heavenly Father amplified the love that she showed towards her family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even strangers she met on the streets. Wherever she went and whatever she did the love of Christ was the example that she showed towards others.

She was well known in the community for having a kind heart and helping hand. She always saw good in everyone that she met. She was a good listener who also gave excellent advice to all who confided in her. She was always good at telling people how good God has been to her and that He is who she put her trust in.

She dedicated her life to the Lord at a very early age, attending church at Manassa Baptist Church in Amelia, VA. When she relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia she attended Mt. Ararat Baptist Church and later moved her membership to New Quarters Baptist church where she was a faithful member for over sixty years until her health declined. She held the office of Church Finance Secretary for many years. She was the President of the Usher Board, Pastor Aide, sang in the choir, church Missionary, and choir secretary. She also worked with the youth, set up Holy Communion, was Captain of the church Rallies, and a faithful worker in the church kitchen and in helping to keep the church clean. Every year Susie planned trips to different parts of the country and would donate all the proceeds to the church.

During her spare time she served the community through outreach, helping to provide food and other goods to hundreds of families in need. She would visit the sick and shut-ins, and would often call to

check on many people to make sure that they were ok or if they needed anything. Even when she wasn’t feeling good nothing would stop her from doing God’s work.

Susie is preceded in death by her parents Early Johnson Sr and Patsy Johnson Harris; daughter Shirley Ann Johnson; brothers, Early Johnson Jr., Joseph Johnson, Willie Harris Jr., and Luvert Harris; sister Willie Bell Johnson Cooke; and nephew Ray Harris.

In sadness and love, you left us fond memories and though you are not here your love is and will always be in our hearts. Left to mourn and cherish her memories are her devoted and loving husband Raymond Wallace; loving children, Howard Wallace (Rhonda) of Williamsburg, VA, Apostle/Pastor Sharon Wallace of Virginia Beach VA, Kenneth Wallace ( Lorena) of Tucson, AZ, Rev. Dr. Juanita Allen (Jerry Sr) of Maricopa, AZ, and John Wallace (Earline) of Ft. Washington, MD; her baby Jeremiah whom she took as her sixth child and special “the other son” Dr. Morris L. Randall Sr., both of Williamsburg, VA; her only living aunt Channie Cabbins of Petersburg, VA; sister Gracie Johnson of Washington, DC; brother Morris Harris of Lexington, VA; sisters-in-law, Elnora Smith, Alice Johnson, Juanita Griffin, and Estelle Powell; brother-in-law Harold Wallace; best friends, Wanda Stewart and Mary Coleman; eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, whom she had a very special bond with in their own way; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate Mama Sue’s life will be held at noon Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Bethel Restoration Center. Interment to follow in New Quarter Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Wallace may be viewed on Saturday in the church beginning at 10 a.m. until the hour of her service.
