Roy Johnson, 70, of Providence Forge, Virginia, passed away on April 22, 2024.
He was the son of the late John Wesley Johnson Sr and Rosa B Johnson. In his early life, Roy attended Charles City County Public schools where he excelled as an athlete, student, and all-around good person. Roy was also a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. At a very young age Roy decided that he wanted to join the logging business and that’s just what he did, although it was hard work, he enjoyed the outdoors and couldn’t see himself doing anything else.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball/baseball, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play on Sundays. Roy is widely remembered as a quiet, introverted, and hardworking man who loved to fish and relax after a long week at work.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Johnson Sr.; his mother, Rosa B. Johnson; brothers, Ronnie E. Johnson and John “Snook” Johnson Jr.; and sister, Rose Marie Mabry. He is survived by his wife, Phoebe Johnson; daughters, Chemise Shelton and Alexandria Johnson; son, Tyler Johnson; son-in-law, Kantrell Shelton; grandchildren, Ty’Liyah Johnson, KhiLiyah Johnson, ZyLiyah Johnson, Alyssia Shelton, R’iana Shelton and Xola Shelton; brothers, Kenneth Johnson Sr. and Ricardo Craddock; brother-in-law, Ronnie Mabry Sr.; nieces, Roneshia Mabry and Mechel Webb; nephews, Ronnie Mabry Jr., Jason Johnson, Jalen Johnson and Kenneth Johnson Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Charles City, VA.
