Duncan Evander McIver, 91, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
He was born and raised in Sanford, North Carolina, and served as a Naval sonarman in the Mediterranean from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Navy, Duncan received his B.S. in Physics from University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and had a 26-year career at NASA both at Langley, VA and then NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Upon retiring in 1989 at age 57, he was Vice President for Eagle Aeronautics and then co-founded Technology Commercialization Center (TeCC) resulting in a successful second career working until he was 80-years old.
Duncan was an avid golfer, a lifelong UNC Tar Heel basketball fan and immensely proud of his Scottish heritage. In addition, Duncan was tireless in his many volunteer pursuits. He was a Deacon at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, a member and former president of the St. Andrews Society, a member of the Crown Colony Club, and a Son of the American Revolution. He was a former director of the Hampton Air & Space Museum and the former president of the NACA/NASA Langley Retiree Association. Duncan was the ultimate networker and never met anyone that he didn’t enjoy getting to know better.
Duncan was preceded in death by his sister, Scott Spencer. He is survived by his loving wife of 63-years, Patricia P. McIver (also from Sanford, NC) and his two sons: Robert D. McIver and his wife Rue and daughter Maia from Eugene, OR and Kevin S. McIver and his wife Brenda from Cloverly, MD.
A future memorial service held at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church will be announced.
